LYRICS Our moment in space Our moment in time Wrong time, wrong place Our only crime No point asking why We’re the victims of chance But now the music is changing So must the dance The clock is striking twelve There’s no second chance Now the music is changing So must the dance We see the same things But think different thoughts The stories we’ve told The battles we’ve fought We play the same tune But we sing different songs Both of us are right And both of us wrong The clock is striking twelve There’s no second chance Now the music is changing So must the dance We walked the same path But chose different roads The beat that we marched to On the journeys of old Time to cross the street now And sing with one voice Now the music is changing We all face the choice The clock is striking twelve There’s no second chance Now the music is changing So must the dance The clock is striking twelve There’s no second chance Now the music is changing So must the dance

LYRICS They’ll dress up and make up and play let’s pretend They were bullied at school Now they want their revenge It doesn’t have to make sense A rule is a rule A very big fish in a very small pool And the sheep fall in line As the blind lead the blind And they’ll all keep on searching But never will find What they’re not looking for And they don’t understand With their eyes firmly closed And their heads in the sand And we’re told not to doubt what they know to be true So we’ll only find out what they already knew Just answer their questions but don’t ask them why How long is your skirt how wide is your tie And the sheep fall in line As the blind lead the blind And they’ll all keep on searching But never will find What they’re not looking for And they don’t understand With their eyes firmly closed And their heads in the sand There are words that just have to be spoken There are rules that just have to be broken And the sheep fall in line As the blind lead the blind And they’ll all keep on searching But never will find What they’re not looking for And they don’t understand With their eyes firmly closed And their heads in the sand

LYRICS Pulling my strings My invisible puppeteer I pretend not to listen But it knows I can hear The demon inside The voice in my ear Murmuring doubt Whispering fear It knows I can’t see it But I know it is there It’s breath brushes by me I feel it’s cold stare The demon inside Constantly watching me The beast in my mind Slowly destroying me Constantly scratching at the same weeping sore The voice in my head My emotional matador Some things should be forgotten Sleeping dogs left to lie But there’s a voice that reminds me There’s a voice asking why? It’s asking the questions That I’ll answer for It’s a voice I can’t silence, Avoid or ignore Constantly scratching at the same weeping sore The voice in my head My emotional matador Constantly scratching at the same weeping sore The voice in my head My emotional matador Something is watching me Hunting me, haunting me Something is stalking me Tempting me, taunting me Something is prowling Scowling and growling Something is waiting Baiting, berating Calling my tune The demon inside my head Shouting aloud The things better left unsaid Constantly scratching at the same weeping sore The voice in my head My emotional matador Constantly scratching at the same weeping sore The voice in my head My emotional matador

Mona Lisa 04:52
LYRICS Less than a fact but more than a guess Her lips saying no but her eyes saying yes The penultimate act in the last pantomime I lived my nine lives now I’m just killing time No quite a yes, but more than a no Her eyes saying stay, but her lips saying go I have to plead guilty of thought, word and deed The memories congeal as the truth starts to bleed Guilty by association Inappropriate elation Unconventional flirtation Ultimate emancipation Risking excommunication Incremental degradation And in a crowded works canteen The moment largely goes unseen The bishop quietly takes the queen The cat has finally got his cream And in a no-names asked motel Some people buy, some people sell Some people kiss, some people tell The witches cast their evil spell And who was Mona Lisa smiling at Who could she see, what did she know Did she smile first, did they smile back What did they say, where did they go? The flames are still rising, the mist now descends The angels are leaving, my demon returns Some will be lost, but some shall be saved Would you throw the first stone, would you hammer the nails? And in an all-night coffee bar the lights are dim, the door ajar Behind the smoke from your cigar lest we remember who we are And in a backstreet cheap saloon Two strangers nod good afternoon The moment’s over all too soon An aborted honeymoon And in a black and white cartoon Silhouetted by the moon The piper plays his lonely tune
5.
LYRICS I lie here and listen with a tear in my eye The outpouring of grief from the black-sombre sky But the early morning rain Can’t wash away the pain Who gets to decide who will live who will die? The breeze raises its voice in a haunting lament Deep in the winter of our discontent The steady drumming beat Sounds a muffled, sad retreat Your rainbow was fleeting now our time is spent And the world it is weeping For what it has seen For where it is going For where it has been And the world sheds a tear And the world bows its head To acknowledge injustice And to honour the dead I write words in the sand, they’re washed out by the tide Though they’re no longer there, that does not mean I lied Tell me how is it fair Can no one hear my prayer There’ll be winners and losers who gets to decide A piece can be spared, if a pawn saves the queen We all have our place in the grand master scheme But if the Gods play their games Will they now take the blame? No one said it was fair, no one knows what it means And the world it is weeping For what it has seen For where it is going For where it has been And the world sheds a tear And the world bows its head To acknowledge injustice And to honour the dead

LYRICS Your words are unspoken But the message is clear Though you sit here beside me You're no longer here The deafening silence I long for your touch It's the words that you don't say That hurt me so much You gaze into the distance Though there's nothing to see I can't help but notice You look beyond me No words from your lips But your eyes say it all The darkness descending As the silent snow falls The deafening silence I long for your touch It's the words that you don't say That hurt me so much It's not that I don't believe what you say I just believe what you don't The deafening silence I long for your touch It's the words that you don't say that hurt me so much

LYRICS When it matters the most, Make it matter the least When you’re faced with a famine, Prepare for a feast When you’re all out of options, You don’t have to choose And when you have nothing, You have nothing to lose Sail close to the wind and you’re taking a chance If you’re walking on thin ice....then you may as well dance When you stare down the barrel, You may as well smile If you’re going to miss, Miss by a mile When you’re facing the music, You may as well sing For when you have nothing, You have everything Sail close to the wind and you’re taking a chance If you’re walking on thin ice....then you may as well dance When your head’s saying no, Time to follow your heart When it looks like it’s over, It’s a good time to start When you live like a pauper, Act like a king And when you have nothing, You have everything Sail close to the wind and you’re taking a chance If you’re walking on thin ice....then you may as well dance Don’t you know you’ve nothing left to lose Don’t you know you always get to choose Don’t you know that nothing’s as it seems Don’t you know you live life through your dreams

LYRICS An unlikely combination But mutual fascination Hard to explain but hard to deny You just have to accept Normal rules don't apply As a matter of fact Opposites attract Just a widely-held misconception Chalk n cheese No guarantees But if that's the rule how'd you like to be the exception? The immaculate deception Just a matter of perception Ignoring the facts and against all the odds Tempting the fates and defying the Gods No rational explanation An unusual situation We know it is true, but can’t explain why You just have to accept Normal rules don’t apply As a matter of fact Opposites attract Just a widely- held misconception Chalk n cheese No guarantees But if that's the rule how'd you like to be the exception? However improbable, what remains must be true Now everyone knows, what we already knew..... As a matter of fact Opposites attract Just a widely- held misconception Chalk n cheese No guarantees But if that's the rule how'd you like to be the exception

LYRICS Who will pay the ferryman for our rendezvous in hell? Have you got a soul to sell? Have you got a soul to sell that’s worth the selling? Who will pay the ferryman on the voyage of the damned? Blood is seeping through the sand Have you got a tale to tell that’s worth the telling? Who will cross the rubicon, the point of no return All our bridges burn When will we ever learn what we’ve been teaching? Who will cross the rubicon, the die forever-cast The first become the last The ghost of Christmas past resorts to stealing So let me ask you, what you selling for How much silver do you need to make it worth the price? So let me ask you, why do you want more How much silver makes it worth the sacrifice? And how much silver do you need to lead you to temptation And how much silver do you need to pay for your redemption How much silver do you need How much silver do you need To offer you salvation For you desecrate the memory, when you abdicate your throne We were born to die alone we will reap what we have sown, on that bright morning And in the final reckoning, when we tally up the score when the less become the more it is tempting to ignore, our mother’s warning What you sow is what you reap So mister, start your reaping Men ask why, as Satan smiles The angels gently weeping So let me ask you, What you selling for How much silver do you need to make it worth the price? So let me ask you, Why do you want more How much silver makes it worth the sacrifice?

LYRICS I'm burning inside But you won't hear me cry You won't hear me object Or justify I'm burning inside But you won't hear a sound What I say to myself I’ll not say aloud I'm burning with a cold fire Dancing on the high wire To the distant sounds of gunfire I'm burning with a cold fire Trapped between the barbed wire Sinking in the quagmire I'm burning inside But you won't hear me plead I will not confront But I will not concede My words will be silent But you will feel my stare You'll know what I'm saying You will know I am there I'm burning with a cold fire Dancing on the high wire To the distant sounds of gunfire I'm burning with a cold fire Trapped between the barbed wire Sinking in the quagmire A Cold fire is burning who's fanning the flame Playing with fire is a dangerous game I'm burning with a cold fire Dancing on the high wire To the distant sounds of gunfire I'm burning with a cold fire Trapped between the barbed wire Sinking in the quagmire

about

We've been writing songs together for the past couple of years and we're delighted to finally release our debut album. The original challenge was to see what we could do writing a song from scratch, and then recording, performing, and producing it just between the two of us. Since those early days we have realised that there is much more scope musically if we invite friends and other musicians to play alongside us. Cold Fire Burning involves no less than ten such musicians.

Although there was initially a very strong folk influence to our work, we have subsequently branched out and now write in a much greater variety of styles. This album is deliberately designed to reflect this. It's fair to say it's eclectic!

We play music and write songs because we enjoy it, but it would be lovely to think other people listened and enjoyed it too.
