LYRICS -- Manifesto I -- These words I write Am I too far left Or maybe I am not quite right I wanna fight the good fight I wanna move towards the light Certainty Is a blessing that's alien to me Eventually I just wanna see You say that I can’t change the world But it sounds a little strange To say that I can’t change the world In a world that needs to change Can’t you see what's happening I have to ask you why You say that I can’t change the world But you know I have to try -- Manifesto II -- I’ve been having a think lately About the things that I hold to be true And I’ve been having a think lately About how the future is ours to Shape and mould into the form That we need it to be For what’s one man's prosperity If most of us aren’t free And I’ll pick up this old guitar And I’ll stand up before the bar And I’ll be singing from the heart This is just the start I might not know what's right But I sure as hell know what is wrong Politicised and weaponised The soundtrack of the street They sat, they stood, they starved, it seems to me That every march must have a beat They raised their voice You cannot silence singing folk You cannot stop them singing You can’t take away their hope And I’ll pick up this old guitar And I’ll stand up before the bar And I’ll be singing from the heart This is just the start I might not know what's right But I sure as hell know what is wrong I might not know what's right but I sure as hell know what’s wrong I might not know what's right but I sure as hell know what’s wrong I might not know what's right but I sure as hell know what’s wrong I might not know what's right but I sure as hell know what’s wrong I might not know what's right but I sure as hell know what’s wrong I might not know what's right but I sure as hell know what’s wrong

LYRICS The silverware is tarnished, so’s the gold I bought in, and I was sold Up the river for a song So I just stopped singing Alarm bells ripped me from the dream Of Greener grass and might have beens Guess I’ve known it all along I don’t need convincing Fairytales and promises Mistaken and misled Roll back the calendar Because the days have lost their shine Look back on history books assembled Standing neatly in a line Turn back the second hand See the golden days with rose-tinted design The empire fell the king is dead Forgotten words best left unsaid All the castles made of sand In the wind dispersing I hear the talk of good old days, When exactly was this golden age? A cloud of smoke a mirrors gleam But the world keeps turning Fairytales and promises Mistaken and misled Roll back the calendar Because the days have lost their shine Look back on history books assembled Standing neatly in a line Turn back the second hand See the golden days with rose-tinted design Look how far from Albion we’ve strayed While we search for a yesterday That never was and never will be When will I reach my shangri-la Will I ever get that far Will the path come clear before me Roll back the calendar Because the days have lost their shine Look back on history books assembled Standing neatly in a line Turn back the second hand See the golden days with rose-tinted design Roll back the calendar Roll back the calendar Roll back the calendar Roll back it back Roll back the calendar Roll back the calendar Roll back the calendar Roll back it back

LYRICS What gives you the fucking right What makes you think you know better Why would you think how it is inside your head’s The way it should be forever The times they have been a’changing now for so long that change is all there is And the change inside my pocket Is nowhere near enough to live I ask what gives you the fucking right do you think its the money or good breeding While you stagnate at status quo And assume you are succeeding Your gnarled and ancient family tree Has roots the same as mine grew under the same sun but for you the stars aligned But for yours the stars aligned Money talks We can’t reply It’s a one-way conversation Money talks I tell no lie No ideas above your station So don’t tell me The same old story – I’ve heard them before So don’t sell me The party line – I think we both know the score So don’t tell me, you’re still wan ting more So don’t tell me, What gives you the fucking right Pretending that you care To claim We’re all in this together But you striped the cupboard bare With gold lining pockets Your silver spoon overflows With daddy’s name behind you We all know how it goes Money talks There is no doubt So don’t tell me The same old story – I’ve heard them before So don’t sell me The party line – I think we both know the score So don’t tell me, you’re still wan ting more So don’t tell me, You’ll have your say You’ll buy your way Whatever it costs you’re going to pay You can try me But you can’t buy me You can’t afford me, I’m not for sale What gives you the fucking right What makes you think you know me What makes you think the way it’s always been Is the way it’s gotta be So don’t tell me The same old story – I’ve heard them before So don’t sell me The party line – I think we both know the score So don’t tell me, you’re still wanting more So don’t tell me, you’re still wanting more So don’t tell me The same old story – I’ve heard them before So don’t sell me The party line – I think we both know the score So don’t tell me, you’re still wanting more So don’t tell me, What gives you the fucking right.

LYRICS So gather ye round, I’ll perform a trick for you Just to prove that Fairy tales do come true How many cards am I holding How many cards do you see The answer my friends, as always depends On how many you want there be What does it mean for me and you It’s the soundtrack of a bloodless coup Something borrowed something blue I never promised you flowers
I just sowed the seed Told you what you wanted to hear
Showed you just what you need Oh the truth it appears Is what the people believe So gather ye round, can you do a trick for me Just to prove how much better things could be Take your half empty glasses And fill them halfway Let the people perceive Maybe even believe It will somehow be better some day What does it mean for you and me A suggestion of prosperity No mention of austerity I never promised you flowers
You know I just sowed the seed Told you what you wanted to hear
Showed you just what you need Oh the truth it appears Is what the people believe So close your eyes and let me whisper in your ear Tales of how things could be Let me show you the prize, and take away those nagging fears And see what you wanted to see I never promised you flowers
I just sowed the seed Told you what you wanted to hear
Showed you just what you need Oh the truth it appears Is what the people believe I never promised you flowers
No I just sowed the seed Told you what you wanted to hear
Showed you just what you need Oh the truth it appears Is what the people believe

Gravy Train 03:34
LYRICS Monday dawns the working week begins Alarm bells ring, the rank and file fall in The people of the weekend just the robots of the week The battery hens of retail, production line of sheep I use the tube You board the gravy train I walk to work You ride the family name What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around is coming round again We’re most or less the same in many ways Born to different parents, different names Not so different you and me, a bloodline lottery Not so different you and me, it’s just our destiny What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around is coming round again And we went to different schools And we played by different rules You know you always will get by A family friend, the old school tie All aboard the gravy train We’re riding on the family name these things have always been the same What goes around is coming round again Your day will come Your will be done The heir to the throne The first born of a first born Silver spoon babies now silver spoon men Have their silver spoon babies And we all start again What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again What goes around is coming round again

Closing down sale Everything must go I’ve seen those signs before But what I didn’t know Was that everything means everything And when everything goes And when everything goes There’s nothing left They took my car they took my phone They took my house they took my home Repossessed all that I own They stripped me bare down to the bone My three-piece suite and new TV My self-respect my dignity My sense of worth my self-esteem They took my hope they took my dream Everything they took from me I lost my friends my family I’m selling up I’m selling out I’m giving up I’m moving out And where do they go to these things I have lost Who stands to gain who counts the cost Empty pockets empty streets, Empty promise broken dreams And where do they go to these things I have lost Who stands to gain who counts the cost Empty pockets empty streets, Empty promise broken dreams Our fathers were lying Their dreams slowly dying Now the young men just trying To get through the day Reduced to cameo A celestial puppet show One more fallen domino The games people play Throw coins in the wishing well Cling on to the carousel Retreat to the citadel When it’s our turn to pray And all that I need to know Is what makes the roses grow And where do the poets go When there’s nothing left to say
7.
LYRICS In a game for cheats and fools It always helps to make the rules To make the rules and keep the score These games have all been played before It’s just a game we all must play It’s just a game called groundhog day We all know that we can’t win But a game we must begin It’s just the way it’s always been Our fathers played our fathers lost And to this day we count the cost As relics of the past remain You own the courts the ball and chain These games have all been played before Already know the final score We all know that we can’t win It’s just the way it’s always been It’s just a game we all must play It’s just a game called groundhog day We all know that we can’t win But a game we must begin It’s just the way it’s always been A game for you for us it’s real We use your cards you get to deal You get first pick the inside lane How come the umpire knows your name We use your ball you play downhill It happened then it’s happening still And so you win and take the gold The titles bought and the honours sold It is your game That’s why you win It is the way it’s always been It’s a game we all must play A game a game called groundhog day We do not count we have no choice We have no chance we have no voice You catch the coin you pass the blame We can’t appeal we can’t complain And even though we know the score The wounds run deep and the wounds are raw Age-old scars refuse to heal This game of yours is far too real And so we play your futile game We know the score will be the same A game we know we just can’t win It’s the way it’s always been

Bells 02:27
LYRICS Ring the bells the people said And placed the crown upon his head Ring the bell of number ten We’ll merrily go round again Ring out the bells bring out your dead Don’t ring those bells for me We rang the bells in victory To celebrate our liberty Now they ring for vanity So ring those bells But don’t ring those bells for me For Ringing bells won’t pay the bills House the homeless treat the ill Find jobs for youngsters on the dole Put pennies in the begging bowl Ring out the bells bring out your dead Don’t ring those bells for me We rang the bells in victory To celebrate our liberty Now they ring for vanity So ring those bells But don’t ring those bells for me Silver spoon babies Become silver spoon men What goes around Is coming round Is coming round again You stood and clapped as if you cared Token gestures hollow words A photo opportunity That passes for democracy Ring out the bells bring out your dead But don’t ring those bells for me We rang the bells and clapped our hands And you told us of the promised land But now we finally understand So ring those bells But don’t ring those bells for me We rang the bells in victory To celebrate our liberty Now they ring for vanity So ring those bells But don’t ring those bells for me Ring the bells and heed the warning Ring the bells a new day dawning So ring those bells But don’t ring those bells for me
9.
LYRICS They won’t speak the truth But their silence is deafening It don’t mean a single thing Not a whimper but a yawn It might not be today But there will be a reckoning One day a bell will ring To greet the new day's dawn In every bar On every stage Every banner ever waved You can hear the people singing Let every line of every song Rouse the sleeping from their slumber Lead the people to the street So many voices can’t be wrong So like the poets of my childhood And the prophets of my youth Three chords are all you need to tell the truth They taught me where to look to find the answers Or was it just a pretty melody I turned the dial I switched the station But like an echo their words keep coming back to me And we joined in every chorus And we hung on every word And we sang their song to others And we told them what we heard Let every line of every song Rouse the sleeping from their slumber Lead the people to the street So many voices can’t be wrong So like the poets of my childhood And the prophets of my youth Three chords are all you need to tell the truth They told me that the times they were a changing Or was that just another song I might not know what’s right I sure as hell know what is wrong So I’ll pick up this old guitar And I’ll stand up before the bar And I’ll be singing from the heart Let every line of every song Rouse the sleeping from their slumber Lead the people to the street So many voices can’t be wrong So like the poets of my childhood And the prophets of my youth Three chords are all you need to tell the truth

about

Manifesto is our take on some of the issues that face us today. To borrow a line from the title track, “we might not know what’s right, but we sure as hell know what’s wrong”.

In the best traditions of the folk idiom, the songs champion the cause of the underdog and question the morality of hereditary privilege and inequality. Drawing as much from our punk background as from folk music, the tracks span intense full band efforts, to soft and introspective folk, to raw and impassioned solo songs.
